Firmer Skin Before the Holidays: When to Start Radiofrequency and What to Expect by Christmas

Two sessions and a result that builds over time: an honest radiofrequency calendar for the holidays, based on the date you start.

You want firmer skin for the December dinners, and you're wondering if it's too late. For XERF radiofrequency, the answer depends on the date of your first session: you need two, 4 to 6 weeks apart, and the effect keeps settling in for months afterwards.

This article does the countdown with you, says what shows right away and what comes later, and what we suggest if December is already too close.

The treatment you don't do the day before

A neuromodulator is planned a few weeks before an event. XERF works the other way around: it heats the deep layers of the skin to tighten collagen fibres and restart collagen production. Part of it shows right after the session, the rest builds slowly.

According to the treatment page, the result is immediate, then gradual over 3 to 6 months. In other words, the best version of your skin arrives after the holidays, not before. We'd rather tell you now than in January.

Two sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart: that calendar decides what you'll see on December 24.

The countdown, based on when you start

XERF is done in at least two sessions, then a yearly upkeep. Here, the interval between the two sessions is 4 to 6 weeks. This is what it gives, in plain arithmetic, for a few start dates:

First sessionSecond session (4 to 6 weeks later)On December 24
Early NovemberLate November to mid-DecemberBoth sessions done, the effect is starting to settle in
Mid-NovemberMid- to late DecemberOne or two sessions, depending on the interval chosen
Early DecemberEarly to mid-JanuaryOne session done, the second after the holidays

This table is not a clinic deadline: it is the interval applied to a calendar. The date of your second session is set at the assessment, based on your skin.

Mostly, remember that starting in December is not pointless. You'll have the effect of the first session for the holidays, and the series is completed in January.

What you see right away, and what comes later

What you can expect, without dressing it up:

  • Right after the session: skin that may look a little tighter, as existing collagen contracts.
  • The following weeks: new collagen forms, and the improvement continues over several months.
  • After the full series: according to the clinic, results can last 12 to 18 months, and they vary from person to person.

Cleveland Clinic describes the same curve for radiofrequency in general: changes that show over a few months, not overnight. No result date can be guaranteed, and we won't promise you one.

Redness and makeup on the night of a dinner

No downtime: back to your usual activities the same day. Temporary redness is possible. According to the clinic, when it comes, it lasts a few hours.

A session lasts 90 min, for the full face and neck. If you book your second session the week of a dinner, just avoid placing it the same morning: a few hours of margin are usually enough. Sun and exercise aftercare is given to you at the end of the session.

If December is already too close

If your dinner is two weeks away and you haven't started anything, XERF won't give you its full effect in time. We'll tell you so at the assessment. Two options exist, depending on what bothers you:

  • For surface glow and texture: a surface treatment. The article on face lasers before the holidays gives the lead time for each.
  • For an expression line: a neuromodulator, given by a nurse after an assessment. It also needs a few weeks' notice.

And nothing forces you to choose between December and January: starting now means being further along in the series by spring.

What we tell you at the assessment

The assessment is there to say whether XERF suits you, and to place your two sessions around your dates. What we tell you up front:

  • the number of sessions, at least two, then yearly upkeep;
  • what the session covers: the full face and the neck;
  • the price per session, $1,500, taxes extra;
  • what the treatment won't do: no energy removes excess skin.

The 3D analysis is offered at no charge if you'd like it. For a first visit, The ultimate XERF offer brings together the two XERF sessions and two LaseMD Ultra sessions. It is reserved for a first visit. The session count is covered in the article on how many radiofrequency sessions for the face, and the full details on the XERF page.

Questions we are asked

Is it too late for Christmas?

Not to start. To have both sessions done before December 24, you need a first session in early November. Later than that, you'll have the effect of one session for the holidays and the second in January.

Can I have my second session the week of a dinner?

Yes. Temporary redness is possible and lasts a few hours, according to the clinic. Just leave a few hours between the session and the evening.

Should I wait until January?

Nothing requires it. Since the result builds over months, starting earlier means seeing it earlier. If your holidays are busy, January is also a good time.

Does the redness show in photos?

If it's there, it fades within a few hours. A photo taken the evening after a morning session usually doesn't show it, but we can't guarantee that for every skin.

Can I combine it with a laser before the holidays?

Yes, but not on the same day: XERF and LaseMD Ultra are done at separate appointments. The order and the gap are set at the assessment.
