Laser Hair Removal: When to Start, Month by Month

When to start laser hair removal? The dates month by month for a November start, at each pace, what the sun changes, and what we don't promise you.

Yes, November is a good time to start laser hair removal. Winter has no medical virtue here: your skin isn't tanned, and eight sessions take time. Starting in mid-November takes you to the end of May if you come every 4 weeks, and to early September if you come every 6 weeks.

Here is the full math, what the sun changes in the calendar, and what no date can guarantee.

What sets the calendar: the hair, not the season

The laser only works on hair in its growth phase. At each session, only some of your hairs are in it. It takes several spaced-out passes to catch the rest. The American Academy of Dermatology writes that most patients can have a treatment once every 4 to 6 weeks.

At the clinic, the average course is 8 sessions, sometimes more, up to 12 depending on the amount of hair and on hormones. Your exact number is refined at the assessment.

Eight sessions 4 to 6 weeks apart make seven intervals: 28 to 42 weeks between the first session and the last.

The math, session by session, starting November 16

Take a first session on Monday, November 16, 2026, and a course of 8 sessions. The dates fall like this:

Your paceSession 1Session 4Session 8
Every 4 weeks (per zone)Nov. 16, 2026Feb. 8, 2027May 31, 2027
Every 5 weeks (per zone)Nov. 16, 2026Mar. 1, 2027July 19, 2027
Every 6 weeks (per zone)Nov. 16, 2026Mar. 22, 2027Sept. 6, 2027
Unlimited Zones plan, one session a monthNov. 16, 2026Feb. 16, 2027June 16, 2027

The pace is decided with the medical esthetician, based on your skin and your hair. A missed appointment or a postponed session moves every date after it.

If your course takes 12, add four intervals to the last column.

What this table says about "smooth by spring"

The table gives session dates. It does not give a result. Results vary from person to person and none is guaranteed.

The 4-week pace is the only one that finishes eight sessions before June. At the plan's monthly pace, the eighth session lands in mid-June. The other paces run into summer or later. If a specific date matters to you, a family event or a trip, tell us at the assessment: we look together at what is realistic.

The sun: what winter simplifies

Tanned skin absorbs more energy and reacts more easily. That is why we ask you to avoid direct sun and tanning beds for the 2 weeks before and the 2 weeks after each session. Cleveland Clinic asks for 2 weeks before and at least 1 week after; at our clinic, it is 2 weeks after your last exposure.

In November, the summer tan has almost always faded: you start with skin at its natural colour, with no waiting. If that is not quite the case, the Clarity II has two wavelengths and is adjusted to your skin, but it is up to the team to judge on the spot.

A trip down south rules nothing out. It shifts things:

  • allow at least 2 weeks between a session and your departure, since the sun is to be avoided afterwards;
  • when you return, we wait 2 weeks after your last exposure before the next session;
  • each shift pushes back the remaining sessions by the same amount.

The details of preparation are in the article on preparing for laser hair removal.

What research says about the season

Very little. A 1991 study in Sheffield, which followed 14 men for 18 months, measured that beard and thigh hair grow more slowly in winter. It was not about lasers, and not about women. No rule about the best starting season follows from it.

Who this calendar does not fit

The laser targets melanin, the pigment in the hair. White, grey, very light blond or red hair does not have enough to respond. For those hairs, no calendar applies, and we tell you before you start, not after the first session. Other methods exist: they are discussed at the assessment.

What we tell you in advance

We would rather you know this before booking, without having to ask:

  • The Unlimited Zones plan gives unlimited zones, not unlimited sessions: one session a month, with as many zones as you want.
  • The plan has a 3-month minimum, then continues month to month.
  • Results vary, and none is guaranteed.
  • Medications, damaged skin, pregnancy: what applies to your case is confirmed at the assessment.

Prices for each zone and for the plan are on the laser hair removal page.

Frequently asked questions

Can you start laser hair removal in winter?

Yes. Winter is convenient because skin isn't tanned, but it is not a medical rule. The right time is when you can follow the sun instructions and come to your sessions.

Do I have to wait for summer for it to work?

No. Waiting for summer pushes back the start and complicates the sun rules. The laser works on hair in its growth phase, whatever the season.

How long before a trip down south?

Allow at least 2 weeks between a session and your departure. When you return, the next session waits 2 weeks after your last sun exposure. A trip shifts the calendar, it doesn't cancel it.

If I still have a tan from summer, can I start?

Call us first. On the day of the session, your skin should be back to its natural colour, and it is up to the team to judge that.

If I start now, will I be done by May?

Only if you come every 4 weeks and the 8-session course suits you. At the other paces, the last session lands in summer or fall. No end date is guaranteed: it depends on your hair, your hormones and your appointments.
