The mechanism

How the Clarity II works

The principle is called selective photothermolysis: we pick a wavelength that the target absorbs better than the surrounding skin. The target heats and is destroyed, the rest is spared. The whole craft is in that choice, and in the cooling that protects the surface while the depth does the work.

    We read your skin

    Skin tone, recent tanning, hair colour and thickness, history. That determines the wavelength and energy, not a standard protocol.

    We choose the wavelength

    Alexandrite 755 nm is strongly absorbed by melanin: it is effective on light to medium skin. Nd:YAG 1064 nm goes deeper and is less distracted by the skin’s own melanin: it is what makes deep and tanned skin safe to treat.

    We cool while we heat

    Built-in cooling drops the surface temperature on every pulse. That protects the epidermis and makes the session bearable, with no numbing.

    We adjust next session

    We note how your skin responded and raise or hold the energy accordingly. A good laser plan is corrected along the way, not decided once and for all.

What the Clarity II does not do

  • It cannot see white, grey, blonde or red hair: without melanin, the laser has no target. We tell you before you pay, not after three sessions.
  • It does not erase melasma. Heat can even reawaken it: those patches are managed differently, and we will point you there.
  • It does not replace a treatment for lax skin. For firmness we talk radiofrequency, not a laser for redness.
  • It guarantees nothing. Results vary from person to person, and maintenance is still advised.

Clarity II, the questions we get

Because no single wavelength suits every skin. 755 nm is strongly absorbed by melanin, so it works well on light skin but is risky on deep or tanned skin. 1064 nm goes deeper and pays less attention to surface melanin: that is what makes those skins treatable. A single-wavelength device forces you to turn people away, or to treat them badly.

Yes, with the right settings. That is exactly what Nd:YAG 1064 nm is for. What makes a session risky on deep skin is not the skin colour, it is a poorly chosen device or badly set energy. We assess your skin tone first, and adjust at every visit.

IPL sends a broad spectrum of wavelengths, part of which does nothing for your target. A laser sends one chosen wavelength. It is more precise, more predictable, and it can be tuned. That is also why it is medically supervised here, not a spa service.

You feel a brief snap of heat, often described as an elastic band on the skin. Built-in cooling works on every pulse, which makes the session bearable with no numbing. Fine areas like the lip are felt more than legs.

White, grey, blonde and red hair. The laser targets melanin; with no pigment in the hair, there is nothing to heat. No setting changes that, and no clinic can get around it. If your hair is like that, we will say so at the evaluation rather than sell you a package.

Hair can only be treated in its growth phase, and not all your hair is there at the same time. That is why several spaced sessions are needed. Most of our clients reach their goal in about eight sessions, and sometimes up to twelve depending on the area, hormones and hair type.

It can, with adjustments. Recently tanned skin holds more surface melanin, so we move to 1064 nm and lower the energy. On an active sunburn, we wait. The honest rule: we treat your skin as it is that day, not as it was at the consultation.

Our team: three nurses and three medical aestheticians, seven years of practice. The laser remains a medical act, with an assessment before the first session and follow-up of your response from visit to visit.
