PicoSure

It shatters pigment by vibration, not by heating the skin around it.

Pulses so short they are measured in trillionths of a second. At that speed, energy shatters ink and melanin mechanically, before heat has time to spread to neighbouring tissue.

The mechanism

How the PicoSure works

Older pigment lasers heated the particle until it burst, which also heated the surrounding skin. Picosecond changes the logic: the pulse is so brief that the particle is shaken apart before heat can spread. Less heat around means less risk to the skin.

    Your immune cells carry the fragments away, over weeks. That is why we space sessions: they need the time.

    With the Focus lens, the same pulse creates micro-zones of regeneration: we then work texture and fine lines rather than pigment.

What the PicoSure does not do

  • It does not erase a tattoo in one session. Depending on ink, depth and age, several are needed, six to eight weeks apart.
  • It does not guarantee a colour will fully disappear. Green and light blue resist, and some tattoos keep a shadow.
  • It is not the first choice for melasma. Those patches are hormonal and recur: we prefer a full plan over a laser alone.
  • It does not clear a spot on skin that keeps being exposed unprotected. Sunscreen is part of the treatment.

PicoSure, the questions we get

They are treatable here. One wavelength cannot see every ink, which is why yellow, green and blue are often turned away elsewhere. We have the dedicated colour handpiece alongside the one that works on black. It takes more sessions than a black tattoo, we will not pretend otherwise, but we can take it on. The only inks that resist everywhere are white and pastels, which can even darken: we say so before starting.

Because pigment breaks by vibration rather than by cooking. Less heat spread around means less risk of burns and residual marks, especially on deeper skin. It is a real technical leap, not a brochure line.

Most often between eight and ten, sometimes more, six to eight weeks apart. Light shading is the exception and often goes in one to four. It depends on colour, ink density, depth, age and location: closer to the heart, circulation clears better, so it goes faster.

The risk is low with a well-set picosecond laser, lower than with older lasers. It is not zero: a picked scab can mark. We give you aftercare instructions, and they matter as much as the session.

Comparable to an elastic band snapped on the skin, sharper on thin areas. Sessions are short. On large areas, numbing can be applied first.

It is the same device, set for skin rather than ink. One to three sessions is often enough on sun spots. The spot darkens first, then fades: that is normal, and it surprises people no one warned.
