Laser Hair Removal vs IPL: What Actually Differs
Laser and IPL don't target hair the same way. What each can do, what it can't, and which skin tone it suits, without selling you the one we happen to offer.
You typed "best laser hair removal clinic Laval". You landed on ten sites that all call themselves the best, and none of them tells you on what grounds. So let's start with the only thing someone other than us has said: Clinique DC received the 2027 Consumer Choice Award in the category "Best aesthetics clinic in Laval", given by an organization outside the clinic, by city and by category.
An award doesn't replace your judgment. "The best" isn't declared, it's checked: so we'll give you the five things to look at before trusting anyone with your skin, and for each one, what you can verify about us, in numbers, names and photos. At the end, you decide.
What "best" means, when it's your skin
Laser hair removal is a series of appointments over several months, not a one-afternoon treatment. What makes the difference at the end is neither the decor nor the name on the door. It's five things, all of them checkable before the first session:

Let's take them in order.
1. The device: two wavelengths, or part of the population is excluded
A hair removal laser targets the melanin in the hair. On light skin, any decent device manages. On medium, deep or tanned skin, the skin's own melanin absorbs the energy, and a single-wavelength device starts heating the skin instead of the hair. That's where burns and dark spots happen.
We use the Clarity II by Lutronic, a medical laser that carries two wavelengths on the same handpiece: Alexandrite (755 nm), strongly absorbed by melanin, for light to medium skin; Nd:YAG (1064 nm), which goes deeper and is less distracted by the skin, for deep and tanned complexions. Cooling is built into the handpiece, on every pulse: that's what protects the surface while the depth does the work, with no numbing.

The point to remember: a clinic with only one wavelength can't treat everyone, and it won't always say so before it has started. Ask for the device's name and its wavelengths. With us, the answer is written on the technology page, with its photo.
2. Who holds the handpiece
The same device gives different results depending on who sets the energy. The Clarity II isn't set to a standard protocol: we read your skin (skin type, recent tanning, hair colour and thickness, history), choose the wavelength, set the energy, and revisit those settings at every session, because your November skin isn't your August skin.
Here, the handpiece is held by a medical esthetician, or by a nurse trained on the laser. The team was trained by our founder, Sarah-Donia Cherif, a nurse who was a trainer for Cynosure Lutronic, the maker of most of our devices, while she was already running the clinic: the manufacturer sent her to show other clinics how to set up their machines. 3. The number of sessions you're promised
This is the most honest criterion for judging a clinic, and the easiest to check: were you told the truth about how long it takes before you paid?
The laser only reaches the hair during one phase of its growth. At each session, only part of the follicles are in that phase, so it takes several passes, four to six weeks apart, the time the hair needs to grow back. With the Clarity II, we count eight sessions on average per zone, instead of the twenty-five or more a spa device takes. Some people need fewer, some more, depending on skin type, hair colour and the zone. That number is the same on the hair removal page and here, because it comes from the same source.
What we tell you upfront, without your having to ask: you shave between sessions, you don't wax or tweeze (the laser needs the root), and you don't come in tanned.
4. A price you can read before you come
A clinic that posts its prices lets itself be compared. Ours are written on every page, taxes extra:

One clarification, because the plan's name deserves it: it's the zones that are unlimited, not the sessions. You come once a month, and that session treats every zone you want, for the same price. 5. What we tell you we won't do
A clinic is also judged by what it refuses. The laser has no effect on white, grey, blond or red hair: without melanin, there's nothing to aim at, and no device changes that. We tell you before the first session, not after the third. We also don't treat freshly tanned skin the same day, and for men, laser on the beard is permanent: we talk about it beforehand, because it can't be undone. Questions we get asked
Does the laser work on deep skin tones?
Yes, with the right wavelength. The Clarity II's Nd:YAG 1064 nm goes deeper and is less distracted by the skin's melanin, which makes skin types IV to VI safe to treat. A clinic that only has Alexandrite can't offer you the same safety.
How many sessions does a zone take?
Eight on average, four to six weeks apart. The exact number depends on your skin type, hair colour and the zone, and it's refined after we read your skin, before the first session.
What exactly is unlimited in the Unlimited Zones plan?
The zones, not the sessions. You come once a month, and that session treats every zone you want for the same price. The monthly rhythm follows the hair cycle, which is treated every four to six weeks.
Can I shave between sessions?
Yes, and it's even recommended. What we avoid is anything that removes the root: waxing, tweezing and epilators, because the laser needs the hair in its follicle to reach it.
