How to Get the Most From Your Hair PRP

Rule out a treatable cause like low iron, then tend to your terrain around the sessions: here is what maximizes your PRP results.

Macro of long glossy hair, how to get the most out of hair PRP results

To get the most from your PRP, the work starts before the first session. We first rule out a correctable cause, like low iron or a lagging thyroid, then tend to your terrain around the sessions. The treatment itself is described on our PRP page.

Your plasma looks like you

What few clinics say

Your platelets carry the message we send to your follicles. Give them good ground and they work better; neglect it and no technique will compensate.

The common belief: that PRP gives everyone the same result. It does not.

What we see: someone who smokes, eats poorly and lives with significant stress has plasma noticeably poorer than someone whose habits are sound. That is not a judgement, it is mechanics, and it is the only free lever you have.

What your plasma contains

  • Growth factors, PDGF, VEGF, TGF-β
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Repair proteins
  • Anti-inflammatory cytokines

The better your habits, the more present and active those elements are. The more active they are, the better your follicles respond.

The fundamentals

Food

#### What feeds your growth factors

Quality protein, in a quantity suited to your weight: oily fish rich in omega-3, eggs, legumes like lentils or quinoa, poultry.

Why: protein supplies the amino acids keratin needs, and supports the production of platelet growth factors.

Antioxidants:

  • Berries, for cellular protection
  • Dark leafy greens, spinach and kale, for iron and B vitamins
  • Tomatoes, for lycopene
  • Green tea, for its polyphenols

#### The micronutrients that count

Iron, essential for oxygenation: blood sausage, liver, spirulina, sesame seeds. Pair it with vitamin C for better absorption.

Zinc, a cofactor in hair growth: oysters, pumpkin seeds, beef, cacao.

B vitamins: biotin in egg yolk and nuts, B12 in animal products and nutritional yeast, folate in greens and legumes.

One thing that matters: these come from the plate first. A supplement is not taken at random, but because bloodwork showed a deficiency, and at the dose your doctor sets. We will not prescribe a dosage here.

Hydration, always forgotten

Drink regularly, through the day. It is the simplest and most neglected item on the list.

Sleep

#### Why 7 to 8 hours

It is at night that the body regenerates, synthesizes its proteins and rebuilds its reserves. Poor sleep directly lowers the quality of what we draw on the day of the session.

What helps:

  • Going to bed at regular hours
  • A cool room
  • No screens in the hour before
A woman towel-dries her hair at home, the day after a session

What sabotages your PRP

Smoking, first

It is the heaviest factor by far. It reduces blood oxygenation, alters platelets and their growth factors, and limits circulation to the follicle.

If you smoke:

  • Cut down, genuinely, in the weeks beforehand
  • Quitting entirely is obviously ideal
  • And if that is not possible this year, exosomes are the better option: they do not depend on your blood

Alcohol

Beyond moderate consumption: liver toxicity affecting growth-factor synthesis, multiple deficiencies, and background inflammation that does nobody any favours.

Chronic stress

Permanently elevated cortisol slows hair growth, reduces the effect of growth factors and disrupts nutrient absorption. It is often the hardest factor to change, and the most underestimated.

Preparing, 6 to 8 weeks ahead

Weeks 1 and 2: lighten

What comes out: alcohol, tobacco, refined sugar, ultra-processed food, and late-day coffee.

What goes in: water, green tea, vegetables every day.

Weeks 3 and 4: nourish

This is the moment for bloodwork if you have not had any recently, and to correct what it shows with your doctor. In women, it is also where we check iron, thyroid and hormones, because the cause matters more than the treatment.

A typical day:

  • Morning: eggs and spinach, an avocado, green tea
  • Midday: oily fish, quinoa, colourful vegetables, olive oil
  • Evening: a vegetable soup, a protein, a herbal tea

Weeks 5 to 8: hold

Nothing new: the routine settles, stress comes down, and you arrive at the first session in the best condition.

Around each session

48 hours before

To do: drink more, sleep, and arrive rested.

To avoid: alcohol, tobacco, intense exercise, and anti-inflammatories or aspirin without the nurse's advice.

The day itself

A protein-rich breakfast, water, and a bit of calm before the appointment.

The seven days after

Keep drinking, sleep well, protect the scalp from the sun, and leave it alone: that week is when the signal you were given does its work.

How we work

What we add to the technique

We do not just place the PRP. At the assessment, we look at what in your situation will limit or help the result, and we tell you before you pay.

  1. An honest estimate of what you can expect, given your profile
  2. A plan suited to your real constraints, not to an ideal
  3. Follow-up between sessions
  4. Adjustments based on the response

When your habits will not change

It happens, and it is not a failing. Work stress does not vanish on request, and neither does twenty years of smoking.

In that case, exosomes are the better answer: the concentration of growth factors is the same every session, whatever shape you are in. To be honest about it, they are not approved by Health Canada for regrowth, even though their use is common in clinics.

What optimization changes

It is not a percentage we can promise you: nobody can separate the effect of your habits from that of the treatment.

What we do see is consistent: people who prepare the ground respond faster, hold their result longer, and need less catching up. And the benefit does not stop at hair.

The questions we get

"How long before it changes anything?"

The first effects on plasma quality show within a few weeks. Full preparation takes six to eight weeks, which happens to match the gap between deciding and the first session.

"Does age change anything?"

No, your plasma can be improved at any age. But the earlier you start in the loss process, the greater the effect of the treatment itself.

"Can supplements make up for a poor diet?"

No. They fill an identified deficiency, they do not replace a plate. And taken without a deficiency, they do nothing.

Take your own inventory

Score yourself honestly, from 1 to 10, on five points: your diet, your sleep, your stress management, your hydration and your physical activity.

This is not a test to pass. It is a way to see where your room to manoeuvre is, and which part is worth working on before starting.

Then: the eligibility assessment, a plan that accounts for your constraints, and follow-up that adjusts.

To finish

How well your PRP works does not depend only on our technique. It also depends on what is in your blood the day of the session, and that part is made by you.

Your platelets carry a message. The richer the message, the more it gets heard.
